Consistency amid distractions and new directions

consistency

Consistency, the word rolls off the tongue or flows out of the keyboard with the ease of mountain stream tumbling over rocks.

consistencyBut it’s harder to practice it than say or write the word.

Last year was not my best blogging year, probably the least productive since I started this blog in 2009. Last year I only published 14 posts totalling 8500 words. A very small contribution to the total of 631 posts.

On January 17 this year, I made a commitment to publish at least one post a week. I have managed to maintain 100% consistency with a post each week, this is the 20th post in an unbroken chain of posts published every Friday. The word count for this year is almost double that of the whole of 2017. I am grateful for two posts by contributing author Cassis Steele which helped by giving me a break.

Today was full of distractions, every attempt to get this post done during my normal morning writing time was thwarted by urgent and essential demands on my time.

Consistency often becomes the first casualty when distractions capture our attention.

I recently started a new venture in Internet Marketing with a business partner. We are tapping into the increasingly popular Tiny Homes Movement

consistency

This week has been a whirlwind of website creation, research, setting up new email addresses, autoresponders and writing content. All things I have done before but not for several months, it takes all this old brain’s capacity to remember how to do all that again.

Add to that more time spent on the Grownwright vegetable operation with son Bryan and daughter-in-law Karen, things to do for the church, life is interesting.

One area where I have no difficulty with consistency is my morning walks. With the earlier Spring sunrises, I have been getting up at 5:30 and out walking by 5:45. It is good for the soul to be out in the fresh country air before the sun comes up. I am lucky to live on a farm on a quiet rural road. Most mornings I don’t see a car during my 3 to 5 km walk. On a busy day, I might see two.

This week I have had close encounters with a deer, a raccoon and a possum. Every day I am entertained by a great variety of bird songs.

The rosy tint in the Eastern sky as I set out and the joy of being outside is a wonderful start to the day.

What is the secret of consistency? It’s a product of determination, perseverance, motivation and commitment.

An early start, exercise and fresh air help me be consistent in both the easy and the more difficult things I need to do each day.

How do you stay consistent?
