5 Steps To Thriving On Adversity is back in print. At last, I have copies of my book available for mailing to those of you who have been waiting.
What I thought would have been a simple exercise to get my book reprinted was a long and interesting journey.
The first printing of the book in 2016 was done by a printing company in Winnipeg. When asking about the procedure for re-printing the book, I was told that as the layout and content were on file, all I had to do was email my order.
Then came the shutdown and the flood of business casualties that it caused.
I was unable to contact the printing company. Telephones “no longer in service”, emails undeliverable and the website passed into extinction.
I got quotations from three book publishers in Ontario, all quoted more than double the original cost.
Then, as mentioned in this post, I contacted publisher Anthony Michalski from Kallisti publishing. Anthony had been a guest on The Yakking Show in Episode 15 back in May 2020.
Anthony recommended Seaway Printing in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Jeremy Ness and Bill Schneider guided me through the process. They were more helpful than I could have imagined and I can recommend them highly. A wonderful example of excellent customer service.
Missing Files
One difficulty was that the only copy of the final version of the original manuscript that I had was in PDF format with a double-page layout. The printers needed a PDF with single-page layout. I had to convert the final .doc file to PDF. Only then did I realise that several edits had been done with many corrections to get to the PDF file that was used as the final draft for setting up the book for printing.
Making all the corrections and revising the layout took many hours.
Important lesson. Make sure you always keep a final .doc and PDF format of your manuscript on your own hard drive or cloud storage.
Last week the books arrived.
