Today we are fortunate to have another post by freelance contributor Cassie Steele.
The home is where the majority of us spend most of our time. It is our sanctuary, our safe haven, the place where we can relax and truly be ourselves. It is where we sleep, recharging the batteries at the end of a long working day. Just in the same way that we need to look after our own bodies, we need to look after where we live. Keeping your home clean in a natural and eco-friendly way without using harsh chemicals is better for our health. Not just this, but it is also a way to connect to our environment and find inner satisfaction.
Sweeping the floors
You might well be tempted to get out the vacuum to clean the kitchen floor, but there is something incredibly satisfying about sweeping. Whilst you are sweeping, picture yourself getting rid of the emotional turmoil in your life, it is as easy as pushing it out of the door. Sweeping is also a way of feeling strong, think of the phrase “I’m going to sweep the floor with you.” You are getting the job done, and it can be incredibly therapeutic. Cleaning the floor in this way uses no harsh or toxic chemicals, and is far better for your health too.
Dust if you must
Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
There is a poem by Rose Milligan called “Dust if you Must.” The last verse reads
Old age will come, and it’s not kind,
You yourself will make more dust.
It certainly bears thinking about. The poem is a message that we must always continue moving forward with our lives, and spend time doing the things that bring us joy. We need to make the most of the time that we’ve got and thrive in adversity. Don’t let the things that you don’t want in your life to build up, just like dust. Grab yourself an old fashioned feather duster and get that dust in your home out of there. You will feel refreshed and able to get on with your life.
Bring in the freshness
Abandon the chemical cleaning sprays, and instead mix natural water with a little lemon juice and white vinegar. It will work just as well as your commercial products, and your home will smell fresh and clean. Open the windows and let the breeze and the sunlight in. If you want to bring peace and satisfaction into your home, look after it in a natural way. Make your environment a place that reflects the person that you are aspiring to be – someone strong and resilient.
Looking after your home doesn’t have to be complicated, just use simple cleaning materials and some good old fashioned elbow grease – you will feel better for it. Use the process to help clear your mind and banish any negative thoughts you may have. When you have finished then you can stand back and be proud of what you have achieved.
