Some thoughts on goals and taking action.
I hope you had a good Christmas and New Year break and wish you success, good health, and happiness for 2024.
New Year, new plans, new resolutions if that’s your thing.
I used to write about the importance of goals, here’s a post from June 2014 that still gets visitors. “6 Core Values For Achieving Goals.”
Are goals important? Absolutely yes, but setting goals is no guarantee of success. Action is required to achieve success in any field. The 6 core values I wrote about in the post above are all necessary to achieve goals.
I do set goals, as the years have passed, I have come to realize that goals for who and how I want to “be” are more important than goals for what I want to “have.”
SMART Goal Setting
The self-help and personal development gurus of the 1990s and early 2000s were big on the importance of setting “big, hairy, audacious goals.” There was an acronym to help remember the requirements for goal setting:
- Specific
- Measurable
- Achievable
- Relevant
- Time-related
There is nothing wrong with setting SMART goals. Setting them is easy, taking the action, having the commitment and developing the perseverance is where most of us fall down.
Yes, I still set goals, but I spend much more time planning the steps I need to take to become who and how I want to be and then taking those steps. I may or may not achieve the goals, but by taking action and being consistent, I know that I will make progress in the direction I want to go.
What Taking Action Means For Me
My co-host Kathleen and I have decided to change the focus of The Yakking Show. After nearly 4 years with a business focus, we have started a new channel, Harmony: Your Path To Wholeness. The topics we cover include health and fitness, alternate health, holistic health, supplements, diet, and nutrition.
Our research shows us that there is growing interest in these topics. There is a rising tide of dissatisfaction with the conventional health system. Many of us want more control over our health. Others are unable to get access to healthcare because of the cost in countries without “free” healthcare or the shortage of doctors and facilities in those countries with public health systems.
We have already set up our video and audio channels, published 6 episodes and we have a series of interviews with expert guests scheduled.
Two of the health products and service providers we will be promoting are Dr. Morse’s Herbal Health Club and The Wellness Company.

The healthy living podcasts sound absolutely awesome. Looking forward to this. Right where I am at. I’ve started 2024 hiking with a friend 6 to 8 kl!
You inspire me doing your regular walking Peter and other fitness activities. Well done!
Thanks for your comment Melody, congratulations on starting 2024 with regular walking. I have to confess that I have not walked when it has been -16.
