Life is a bowl of cherries is a guest post by a lady of my mother’s generation who is living proof that you are never too old to try something new. Marion S has had a comment published on this post on this blog. Now she is writing her first post. Her energy and zest for life in her 90s – an age few reach are a huge inspiration. She sets a wonderful example for young adults one-quarter of her age.
Here is Marion’s post:
If life is a bowl of cherries, what am I doing in the pits? (Erma Bombeck)
Cherries – luscious -red and juicy.
- Simply delicious in cookies.
- Juicy filling in fruity pies – crusty
What could be better than:
- Cherry sauce on ice cream
- Cherry jam on tasty waffles
- Cherry garnish on whipped cream
Yummy – yummy – yummy
But then it’s over – they’re gone.
On the other hand, there is a bowl of pits.
Surprise! Surprise! Those hard, ugly pits, hold the key to ongoing life.
So if I am in the pits as Erma noticed – then she holds the key to that life.
Gently crack the hard shell and you will find a tender little ball just waiting to unfurl and grow.
With tender loving care, it would grow into a sturdy tree and produce buckets of ripe cherries.
Cherry pits tossed on the garbage pile will have their pits crack naturally with winter frost, freezing and there will be a multitude of new trees.
Life is like that
Enjoy the fruit and love the challenges of the pits. The pits are what make you what you are.
Thank God for your challenges, without them, life is boring.
With them, there is never a dull moment.
Thank you, Marion.
