Always on the look out for inspiring stories of people overcoming adversity and achieving the impossible, I found this video of Gavin Maitland on BBC News worth sharing.

In 2008, he was told he had contracted an incurable lung disease, had only months to live and that transplant surgery was too complicated.

He persevered, found a hospital that did the operation and survived. Not only  did he survive, he ran a marathon and 5 years after the transplant he swam from Alcatraz to San Francisco.

Here is an article about his story on Examiner.com .

It just shows, “It’s not what happens to you in life, but what you do about it that counts.”

After being told by 17 hospitals that he could not be considered for a transplant, he persevered and eventually found one that was willing to try and carry out the complicated surgery and save his life.

Puts our own problems and difficulties into perspective.

How do you face adversity?

Wishing you an extraordinary life.

WOW! What an amazing story. I am near speechless. Must remember, “Breathe and let go.” Thanks for sharing this incredible story as otherwise I would never have known.
